> The complete guide to Nectar's utility data automation platform and API.

Welcome to Nectar — the platform that takes the headache out of utility data.

If you've ever spent hours logging into utility websites one by one, downloading PDF bills, and manually typing numbers into spreadsheets, you know the pain. Nectar does all of that for you. Automatically. Every week. No more copy-pasting, no more forgotten logins, no more "I'll get to that bill later."

Whether you manage energy data for a handful of buildings or thousands of client sites across the country, Nectar connects to utility portals, downloads the bills, reads them with AI, and delivers clean, structured data — ready for your sustainability reports, your carbon accounting platform, or wherever else it needs to go.

This documentation is split into two tracks:

* **Knowledge Base** for platform users and operators.
* **Developer Guide** for API integrations, webhooks, and embedded workflows.

## Where should I start?

It depends on what you're trying to do. Not everyone uses Nectar the same way, and that's by design. Here's a quick guide based on what you're looking to accomplish right now:

| If you're thinking...                                                        | Start here                                                                                                                                                                  |

| "I'm a developer integrating Nectar into our own platform." | Start with [For developers](/platform/for-developers), then use the [Developer guide](/developer-guide/for-developers), then the [API Reference](/api-reference). |

If you're still not sure, [Getting Started](/platform/getting-started) is always a good first stop. It explains the fundamentals in about ten minutes of reading.

## What can Nectar do for you?

Here's a quick summary of the main things people use Nectar for every day:

* **Automated bill collection** — Connect a utility account once and Nectar checks it weekly, downloading and reading new bills without any manual effort. No more logging into utility websites.
* **Bill uploads** — For utilities without online portals, or when you have old paper bills, upload PDF or image files and Nectar's AI extracts the data automatically.
* **Data exports** — Pull clean usage and cost data as CSV files, or push directly to platforms like Energy Star, Watershed, Sphera, and others.
* **Analytics** — Visualize consumption trends, compare time periods, and break down costs by building, utility type, or date range.
* **Data quality monitoring** — Nectar flags missing data, anomalies, and issues that need your attention, so nothing slips through the cracks.
* **Invitations** — Send a secure link so the account holder can connect their own utility accounts (or reconnect an existing one) without needing a Nectar login or sharing credentials with you.
* **API integration** — Build utility data collection directly into your own platform using Nectar's REST API. Supports webhooks for real-time notifications.

## How teams typically use Nectar

**Energy consultants and brokers** use Nectar to manage utility data for dozens or hundreds of client accounts. Instead of chasing clients for bills every month, they connect the accounts once and the data flows automatically. Reports that used to take days now take minutes.

**Sustainability and carbon accounting teams** pipe Nectar data into their emissions calculations and ESG reports. Clean, structured consumption data means fewer errors and faster audit turnaround.

**Facility managers and operations teams** track energy usage across building portfolios, spot billing anomalies, and monitor cost trends — all from one dashboard instead of twenty utility websites.

No matter how you use Nectar, the goal is the same: spend less time collecting data and more time acting on it.

## FAQ

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="How do I get help?">
    Click **Help** in the Nectar sidebar to submit a ticket, search the knowledge base, or open your **[Support tickets](/platform/support)** to see and reply to past conversations. You can also email **[support@nectarclimate.com](mailto:support@nectarclimate.com)** directly — the support team typically responds within one business day. When reaching out, include the company name, a description of what you're seeing, and any error messages or screenshots.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Is my data secure?">
    Yes. Security is a top priority at Nectar. The platform holds SOC 2 Type 1 and Type 2
    certifications, monitored continuously through Vanta. All data is encrypted both in transit (when
    moving between your browser and Nectar's servers) and at rest (when stored). Utility credentials
    are stored using AES-128 encryption and are never visible to other users — not even Nectar staff.
    Contact [support@nectarclimate.com](mailto:support@nectarclimate.com) to request the latest
    security report.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="What browsers does Nectar support?">
    Nectar works best in modern browsers — **Google Chrome**, **Microsoft Edge**, **Mozilla Firefox**,
    and **Safari**. We recommend keeping your browser up to date for the best experience. Internet
    Explorer is not supported.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="How do I report a bug or suggest a feature?">
    Click **Help** in the sidebar and choose **Submit a ticket**, or email
    **[support@nectarclimate.com](mailto:support@nectarclimate.com)** directly. Include what happened,
    what you expected to happen, and any screenshots — and the URL of the page where it occurred so
    the team can reproduce it. Feature requests are welcome too; the team tracks all feedback and
    uses it to prioritize the product roadmap. See [Support tickets](/platform/support) for how
    follow-up replies work.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Is there a mobile app?">
    There isn't a dedicated mobile app at this time, but the Nectar platform is fully accessible from
    any mobile browser — just navigate to `dash.nectarclimate.com` on your phone or tablet. The
    dashboard, data views, and invitations all work on mobile devices. Most day-to-day work like
    creating connections and reviewing data is easier on a desktop or laptop, but checking statuses,
    scanning the issues list, and sharing invitations works great on the go.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="How often is the platform updated?">
    Nectar ships updates regularly — typically multiple times per month. New features, improvements,
    and fixes are documented in the [Changelog](/changelog). Updates happen seamlessly in the
    background; you never need to install anything.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="What utility types does Nectar support?">
    Nectar covers the major utility categories: **electricity**, **natural gas**, **water**,
    **waste**, **fuel**, **solar**, and **district** (steam, chilled water, hot water). If your
    utility type isn't listed, reach out to
    [support@nectarclimate.com](mailto:support@nectarclimate.com) — the team is always expanding
    coverage.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I manage multiple clients or companies in one account?">
    Yes. Nectar is designed for organizations that manage utility data across many clients. Each client can be set up as a separate **company** with its own sites, connections, and data. You see everything from one dashboard, and you can control which team members have access to which companies.
