# Quick export

> Export usage or cost data as xlsx or csv files.

<Tip>Need help in this area? See [Data Export FAQ](/platform/data-export/faq).</Tip>

Navigate to [**Data Export**](https://dash.nectarclimate.com/data-export) and choose **Export Usage Data** or **Export Cost Data** to download utility data as a spreadsheet. Both flows use the same wizard; the first step lets you select the export type.

<Note>
  **Export Cost Data** appears only when [cost tracking](/platform/settings/data-collection#cost-tracking) is enabled for your company.
</Note>

## Export types

* **Usage Data** — Consumption values (kWh, therms, gallons, etc.) for each meter and billing period. Best for energy audits, sustainability reporting, and internal analysis.
* **Cost Data** — Charge amounts and cost breakdowns from processed bills. Best for budget planning, cost allocation, and financial audits.

## Configuring your export

The export wizard includes the following steps:

### Step 1: Data scope

| Field                         | Description                                                                                                                                                                 |
| ----------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Export Type** | Usage Data or Cost Data |
| **Date Range** | Start and end dates defining the billing periods to include |
| **Filter By** | Choose whether dates refer to the **meter date** (service period), the **bill date** (invoice date), or the **created date** (when the data was added to Nectar) |
| **Sites** | Multi-select to limit the export to specific sites |
| **Utility Types** | Multi-select to include only certain commodities (electricity, gas, water, etc.) |
| **Include bills with issues** | Toggle on to include bills that have open [data quality issues](/platform/glossary#data-quality-issue). By default, bills with unresolved issues are excluded from exports. |

### Step 2: Export options

| Field           | Description                                         |

| **Export Name** | A label for this export (appears in Export History) |
| **Format** | Choose **xlsx** or **csv** |

### Step 3: Preview & download

## Live preview

As you adjust the form, the **preview panel** updates in real time. This lets you verify your filters before downloading.
