How to connect Centerpoint Energy accounts to Nectar.

<Info>
  **Recommended:** Add Nectar as an authorized user on your CenterPoint Energy account. This is the most reliable way to enable ongoing data access and bypasses the need to forward MFA codes from your own inbox.
</Info>

## Recommended approach: Add Nectar as an authorized user

CenterPoint Energy allows account holders to grant access to add authorized users. You'll generate a dedicated Nectar email address in the connection wizard, then add that email — along with Nectar's name — as an authorized user on the CenterPoint portal.

### Step 1 — Generate your Nectar authorized-user details

In the connection wizard, select **Option 1: Managed MFA forwarding**. You'll be asked to enter your own email address — this is where Nectar will forward any MFA codes or notifications it receives, so you stay in the loop.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Start the CenterPoint Energy connection">
    In Nectar, add a new connection for CenterPoint Energy. When the wizard reaches the MFA step, choose **Option 1: Managed MFA forwarding**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter your own email as the forwarding destination">
    Enter the email address where you'd like a copy of any forwarded messages to go. This is your address, not Nectar's.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Copy the generated Nectar email">
    On the next screen, the wizard displays:

    * A **generated Nectar email address** (unique to this connection — for example, `nectar-forward-to-your-company@nectarclimate.com`)
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm MFA configuration">
    * Check the box to confirm that you've configured your utility login to use the Nectar generated email for MFA .
    * Click Update MFA
      * This will reset your connection status to pending, which will prompt our system to try accessing the portal with your credentials
  </Step>
</Steps>

### Step 2 — Add Nectar as an authorized user in CenterPoint Energy

<Steps>
  <Step title="Log in to your CenterPoint Energy account">
    Go to [centerpointenergy.com](https://www.centerpointenergy.com) and sign in with your credentials.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Navigate to authorized user settings">
    Go to **My Account** > **Authorized Users**. For detailed instructions, see CenterPoint's [Manage Permissions guide](https://www.centerpointenergy.com/en-us/CustomerService/Pages/manage-permissions.aspx?\&sa=tx\&au=bus).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add Nectar as an authorized user for each account">
    Click **Add an Authorized User** and enter the values shown in the Nectar wizard:

    * **Name:** Nectar Climate
    * **Email:** *(the generated Nectar email from Step 1 — for example, `nectar-forward-to-your-company@nectarclimate.com`)*

    <Tip>
      Use the values directly from the wizard — don't substitute your own email or a generic Nectar address. The generated email is unique to your connection and is how Nectar links CenterPoint access back to your account.
    </Tip>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Nectar to confirm the invitation">
    CenterPoint Energy sends an invitation to the generated Nectar email. Nectar accepts it automatically and begins pulling billing and usage data. The connection status updates to **Connected**, and any future notifications CenterPoint sends are forwarded to the email you entered in Step 1.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## If you have multiple CenterPoint Energy accounts

Each CenterPoint Energy account (login) needs Nectar added as an authorized user separately. If you manage many CenterPoint accounts across your portfolio, contact [support@nectarclimate.com](mailto:support@nectarclimate.com) — we can help coordinate bulk onboarding.

## Troubleshooting

| ------------------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Still shows "MFA Required" after adding authorized user | It may take up to 24 hours for CenterPoint to process the invitation. Contact support if it persists. |
| "Pending" status after authorized user accepted | Nectar is pulling initial data. This can take 1–2 business days for the first pull. |
| Multiple accounts need separate setup | Each CenterPoint login requires its own authorized-user invitation. |
