# City of Kitchener Utilities

> How to connect City of Kitchener utility accounts to Nectar using email MFA forwarding.

## Connection method: Email MFA forwarding

City of Kitchener Utilities (Ontario, Canada) uses email-based verification for logins from new devices. Since Nectar logs in from its own servers, MFA verification may be triggered.

<Tip>
  **Check if MFA can be disabled.** The City of Kitchener billing portal may allow you to turn off
  additional login verification in your security settings. If possible, this is the simplest approach.

## Setup

<Steps>
  <Step title="Start a new connection or reconnect">
    From [Data Input > Connections](/platform/data-input/connections), click **New connection** and select **City of Kitchener**, or click **Reconnect** on a connection showing **MFA Token Expired**.

  <Step title="Enter your credentials">
    Provide your City of Kitchener billing portal username and password — the same credentials you use at [billing.kitchener.ca](https://billing.kitchener.ca).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose MFA forwarding type">
    * **Managed forwarding** (recommended): Nectar provides a unique email address. Update your account to send verification codes to this address.
    * **Customer-inbox forwarding**: Keep your existing email and set up auto-forwarding of verification emails to Nectar.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Update your account">
    Log in to the City of Kitchener billing portal > account or security settings > update the email address for verification codes, or configure email forwarding.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm in Nectar">
    Complete the MFA configuration step. Nectar triggers a test login to verify codes are arriving.

## Troubleshooting

| "MFA Token Expired"         | Verify forwarding is active and the email address matches what Nectar provided.                                                                    |
| Can't access billing portal | The portal URL is [billing.kitchener.ca](https://billing.kitchener.ca). Contact City of Kitchener customer service if you're having access issues. |
