# Potomac Edison

> How to connect Potomac Edison accounts to Nectar. MFA is optional — we recommend disabling it.

## Connection method: Disable MFA (recommended) or email forwarding

Potomac Edison (part of FirstEnergy) offers optional email-based MFA. When enabled, it sends a one-time code to your email on login. Since MFA is optional, the simplest path is to turn it off.

  **Recommended: Disable MFA.** Potomac Edison's MFA is optional. Disabling it in your account
  security settings allows Nectar to connect with just your username and password — no forwarding
  setup needed.

## Option 1: Disable MFA (recommended)

<Steps>
  <Step title="Log in to your Potomac Edison account">
    Go to [firstenergycorp.com/log\_in.html](https://www.firstenergycorp.com/log_in.html) and sign in.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Navigate to security settings">
    Go to **My Account** > **Profile & Security** > **Security Settings**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Disable multi-factor authentication">
    Turn off the email verification / MFA option. Potomac Edison describes this as optional security that "allows you to receive an email with a one-time code."
  </Step>

  <Step title="Connect in Nectar">
    From [Data Input > Connections](/platform/data-input/connections), click **New connection** > **Potomac Edison** and enter your credentials. No MFA configuration needed.

## Option 2: Email forwarding (if MFA must stay on)

If your organization requires MFA to remain enabled:

    Select **Potomac Edison** and enter your credentials.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose MFA forwarding type">
    * **Managed forwarding** (recommended): Update your Potomac Edison account email to the Nectar-provided address.
    * **Customer-inbox forwarding**: Set up auto-forwarding from your inbox to Nectar's address.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm the setup">
    Nectar triggers a test login and verifies codes are arriving.
  </Step>

## Troubleshooting

| Issue                        | Solution                                                                                                                                 |
| ---------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| "MFA Token Expired"          | Either disable MFA on the portal, or verify your email forwarding is active.                                                             |
| Can't find security settings | Look under Profile & Security on the FirstEnergy portal. Potomac Edison shares the same account system with other FirstEnergy utilities. |
