# Xcel Energy

> How to connect Xcel Energy accounts to Nectar.

<Tip>
  **Best option: Disable MFA if your organization allows it.**
</Tip>

## Setup by adding Nectar as an authorized user

If MFA cannot be disabled, add Nectar as an authorized user on your Xcel Energy account so we can log in with our own credentials and receive verification codes directly:

<Steps>
  <Step title="Start a new connection or reconnect">
    From [Data Input > Connections](/platform/data-input/connections), click **New connection** and select **Xcel Energy**, or click **Reconnect** on an existing connection showing **MFA Token Expired**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Get Nectar's authorized user details">
    The wizard provides the name and email address to add as an authorized user on your Xcel Energy account (for example, `nectar-forward-to-your-company@nectarclimate.com`).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add Nectar as an Authorized User on the Xcel Energy portal">
    Log in to Xcel Energy > **Billing Accounts** > Click on an account > **Manage Account** > **Authorized Users** > **Add authorized user**. Grant access to the accounts and meters you want Nectar to read.

    Click **Add an Authorized User** and enter the values shown in the Nectar wizard:

    * **Name:** Nectar Climate
    * **Email:** *(the generated Nectar email from Step 1 — for example,* `nectar-forward-to-your-company@nectarclimate.com`*)*

    Article from Xcel Energy on how to add an Authorized User:  [https://co.my.xcelenergy.com/customersupport/s/article/How-do-I-authorize-someone-on-My-Account](https://co.my.xcelenergy.com/customersupport/s/article/How-do-I-authorize-someone-on-My-Account)
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm the invitation">
    Xcel Energy sends an invitation to Nectar's email address. Nectar accepts the invitation automatically and sets up its own login for your account.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm the setup">
    Nectar triggers a test login using its authorized-user credentials. Verification codes go directly to Nectar, and the connection moves to **Connected**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Important notes

* Adding Nectar as an authorized user lets us log in with our own credentials, so verification codes come to us directly and are not affected by delays in your corporate email system.
* Make sure the authorized user has access to every account and meter you want Nectar to sync.
* If you see a reCAPTCHA or bot-detection challenge, wait a moment and try again.

## Troubleshooting

| Issue                                    | Solution                                                                                                                                                |
| ---------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| "MFA Token Expired" keeps returning | The authorized user may have been removed or its access revoked. Confirm Nectar is still listed under **Authorized Users** on your Xcel Energy account. |
| Connection is missing accounts or meters | The authorized user may not have access to every account. Update the authorized user's permissions in Xcel Energy to include the missing accounts. |
| "Website Down" status | Xcel Energy's portal occasionally has outages. The connection retries automatically. |
