Connection method: Security questions

Con Edison uses security questions as its verification method on every login. When you connect your Con Edison account, Nectar stores your security question answers and uses them automatically to complete logins.
Security questions can be shared across your organization. If multiple people in your organization manage Con Edison accounts with the same credentials, the security question answers only need to be entered once during the initial connection setup. All connections using those credentials will use the same answers.

Setup

1

Start a new connection or reconnect

From Data Input > Connections, click New connection and select Con Edison, or click Reconnect on an existing connection showing an error status.
2

Enter your credentials

Provide your Con Edison username and password. These are the same credentials you use to log in at coned.com.
3

Answer security questions

The wizard prompts you for your security question answers. Con Edison typically requires answers to 2–3 questions (for example: “What is your mother’s maiden name?”, “What city were you born in?”).Enter the answers exactly as you set them on the Con Edison portal. Nectar stores these securely and uses them on each automated login.
4

Confirm the connection

Nectar verifies the credentials and security answers by completing a test login. Once successful, the connection moves to Connected.

Updating security questions

If you change your security questions or answers on the Con Edison portal, your Nectar connection will show an error status. To fix it:
  1. Click Reconnect on the affected connection.
  2. Re-enter your updated security question answers.
  3. Nectar verifies and resumes collection.

Tips

  • Use consistent answers. Con Edison’s security question matching is exact — capitalization and spacing matter.
  • MFA cannot be disabled on Con Edison. Security questions are mandatory on every login from a new device or session.
  • Third-party account access: If you’ve been granted third-party access to a Con Edison account, you’ll need the security answers set by the account owner.
